What Are Watchmen?

Maybe you are visiting this site for the first time and you are wondering what exactly are Watchmen.

Watchmen are guards or lookouts whose job is that of protecting from attacks of the enemy. Watchmen were always stationed at the highest point of the city. From their vantage point they could see further than anyone else, spying out not only enemies, but messengers who might bring important news. Someone was always in the tower watching for the welfare of the city and its people.

First Peter 5:8 tells us to "Be sober, vigilant because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour." The plan of God is to let us know the tactics of Satan. If we are tuned in listening for the voice we will avoid giving the enemy the opportunities to kill, steal and destroy our lives and homes. The plan of God is designed that we serve as watchmen for our cities, nation and our families.

Below are different types of watchmen along with their responsibilities:

• The Keeper: In Genesis 2:15, Adam was told to guard or keep the garden. Adam was commanded by God to guard or protect that which God had entrusted to his care from the serpent. Watchmen keep things, places and individuals safe.

• Bodyguards: These watchmen guard individuals, protecting them from danger and harm.David was assigned to be Achish's bodyguard for life, this is found in 1 Samuel 28:2.

• Gatekeeper: Watchmen have the ability spiritually in the prayer closet to determine who or what goes in and out of their homes, their family's lives, their churches, their cities, nation and the world. They discern by the Holy Spirit what to allow in, and through prayer open and close the door. By inviting in the work of the Holy Spirit and rejecting darkness, we can set boundaries keeping the enemies out.

Lastly, watchmen are preservers who keep things from ruin and destruction. They preserve lives, anointing, and moves of God by providing covering in prayer. I have only named a few to help you recognize and understand who you are.

Now, each of us has been assigned a unique post. It maybe a person or a certain situation that God wants you to stand in prayer for. It could be a pastor, a scandal, a family that needs restoration, sickness, a broken heart or a mate. Maybe you have been chosen specifically to pray one of these situation through to the end. After all the strong bear the infirmities of the weak.

Put on your armor; seek the leading of the Holy Spirit after all he makes intercession according to the will of the Father. Be tenacious and don't quit, for someone's life depends on your prayers and intercession.
